Discover the history and beauty of the Bodleian Library with this 30-minute guided tour.
Visit the stunning Duke Humfrey’s Library, the University of Oxford’s oldest reading room, and discover how the Bodleian Library has become the academic heart of this world-class institution.
Explore the Divinity School, with its elaborately carved gothic ceiling featuring over 400 crests and other images, and see the pulpits and benches where students and tutors once debated in the University's oldest teaching room.
Please note: this tour includes entry to the Divinity School on days when it is open.
Key tour information
- The 30-minute tour is delivered in English.
- Meet your tour guide in the entrance to the Divinity School (Proscholium).
- The tour includes a number of stairs. We regret that no lift is available.
- Children must be 11+ to join this tour. They must be accompanied by an adult if under 16.
- Private bookings and upcoming closures will affect what tours we can offer – check closures before you book.
Dates and tickets
This tour runs daily.
You can buy tickets for this tour online in advance or on the day of the tour. However, if the Divinity School is closed, tickets will only be available to buy in person on the day.
Advance tickets
We release up to 50% of tickets online in advance. Tickets are released at 9am (UK time) on the 1st and 15th of each month.
Upcoming online ticket releases:
- Saturday 15 August, 9am: for tours on 1 – 14 September
- Tuesday 1 September, 9am: for tours on 15 – 30 September
- Tuesday 15 September, 9am: for tours on 1 – 14 October
- Thursday 1 October, 9am: for tours on 14 – 31 October
Tickets on the day
About 50% of tickets are only available on the day of the tour. These are available to buy:
- Off-peak days (Monday – Friday in September – June): from 9am online and in person from the Weston Library ticket desk.
- Peak days (July – August and on Saturday and Sunday): in person from the Weston Library ticket desk only.
This tour is very popular and tickets sell out quickly, particularly during peak times. We recommend arriving early at the Weston Library to avoid disappointment.
